Neurodiversity: The Benefits of e-Learning

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity refers to the different ways a person’s brain processes information. It is an umbrella term used to describe alternative thinking styles such as Dyslexia, DCD (Dyspraxia), Dyscalculia, Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Overcoming challenges to achieve exclusive performances and results, and understanding the perception of how neurodivergent individuals can make their own significant mark in the workplace, can be rewarding for both the employer and the employee.

The Unique Talents of Neurodivergent Individuals

Many neurodivergent individuals are overlooked because they ‘don’t fit’ the supposed profiles advertised by employers and therefore, they don’t tick all the boxes. But if managers took the time to look more profoundly into the boxes that do get ticked, they’d find an abundance of creativity and originality, which in turn could bring a whole new scope of innovation and competitiveness within the workplace and beyond.

More and more companies are beginning to realise the noteworthy contribution of utilising the innate talents of neurodivergent individuals and acknowledging how they can supplement development in production with their unique and varied ways of thinking, creativity and processing. Simple workplace adaptations such as quiet zones and secure desk spaces, can help towards creating a neuro-inclusive workplace, thus abridging debilitating factors and amplifying production.

“Teams that value diverse perspectives and inclusive design principles will have the deepest impact in designing products for everyone.” - Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft
